I just saw the sad news of Robert Rauschenberg's death in the NYT. I always placed him in my top 5, next to DeKooning & Anselm Kiefer. A friend from art school, who moved to NYC after graduation in the late 80s, worked for him as an interpretor on a trip to Russia. He had nothing but great things to say about the man. I know he had been ill for some time, but this news is still a shock.
