I have to admit that although I am a big Joy Division fan and had been eagerly anticipating the release of the film
Control for years, the film was more than a bit disappointing. The elements were all there, fine acting, wonderful cinematography, captivating story. Still the film fell flat for me & was...well, quite honestly a bit boring at times. A far better film is the 2007 documentary by Grant Gee. The documentary format just seems to do the band, & Ian Curtis in particular better justice. In addition the viewer gets a great feel for Manchester & that time in British history. (be forewarned though, Peter Hook still comes off as a bit of a prat, other than that...a very fine film)

We were total suckers for 'Control,' and are now enjoying the eponymous 'Joy Division' documentary.
I was sort of lukewarm on Joy Division back in the early 80s, when it was a badge of musical honor to appreciate them. The personalities, I'm finding, make all the difference. Wish I'd dug deeper at the time, but all this recent viewing may cause a Joy Division renaissance in the Prahl/Hastie household.
Zune Marketplace Launches Exclusive Joy Division Content
In follow up to the release of a custom Zune digital media player commemorating the ‘Joy Division’ documentary DVD, Zune Marketplace is now featuring exclusive Joy Division content including a 3-part video podcast that is available for free download. In an exclusive interview, the band’s former bassist Peter Hook talks about Joy Division’s tremendous influence on modern music and youth movements in addition to offering some very personal reflections about moving on without Ian Curtis.
As companion elements to the video podcasts, Zune Marketplace is also featuring the full Joy Division catalogue, as well as two unique Peter Hook curated Guestlist features. The Guestlists contain music handpicked by Peter himself, and reveal songs that inspired the original Joy Division recordings as well as modern music that inspires him today from bands like LCD Soundsystem, Perry Farrell's Satellite Party, and Peter Bjorn and John.
